Get Fit and Lose Weight With The HealthRider Treadmill Model R60

One in a long line of Icon manufactured treadmills, the HealthRider Treadmill Model R60 is the predecessor of the T650i, with more or less the same features. The R60 could be described as average on the quality front, with a very short 90 day parts warranty. Having said that, this treadmill does offer very good value for money at around $1500.

The product details:

* Motor - 2.0 CHP
* Treadbelt: 20" x 60" 2-ply
* Incline: 0% - 10% Power Incline
* Speed: 0 - 12 MPH
* User weight: maximum capacity 300 lbs
* Workout programs: 10
* Fans: CoolAire™ Fans
* Heart rate monitor: BioLogic™ Grip Pulse Sensors

If you're anything like me and lead a busy lifestyle, then buying a home treadmill is a great alternative to rushing about after work to get to the gym. I like having the option of working out at home, but you do need some self-discipline to keep up a regular exercise program. Having the HealthRider Treadmill Model R60 within easy reach is an effective solution to workout avoidance excuses!

Things I like about the HealthRider Treadmill Model R60:

The size of the treadbelt is a big advantage of this treadmill. With dimensions of 20" x 60", I feel safe in the knowledge that I won't injure myself by falling off the edge or hitting the console. I also really appreciate the SoftTrac cushioning under my feet, it feels comfortable and my ankles and knees don't hurt after a solid workout.

The console is easy to use, with four LED displays and ten workout options - six pre-set, two pulse and two customizable programs. The manual mode is also really useful if you just want to get off to a quick start.

While it is unlikely that I will ever get near the maximum, the R60 can reach speeds of up to 12 miles per hour. The incline goes from 0 to 10%, probably below average for treadmills in this price range, but it is good enough for me. The 7" x 10" matrix display has a 1/4 mile track which is great for keeping track of my progress.

My negative comments on the HealthRider Treadmill Model R60:

With a 2.0HP motor, this treadmill is ok for walking or light jogging, but the stability comes into doubt when I occasionally attempt a faster running speed. The limited warranty makes me question the manufacturer's faith in their product and while I have not yet had any problems, I know that having to replace parts after the 90 day period could be expensive.

Other features I haven't had time to play with:

The pulse grip sensors measure your heart rate, but you need to buy a wireless chest strap if you want a hands free heart rate monitor. The HealthRider Treadmill Model R60 has iFIT technology to plug in your CD player or VCR, for personal workout programs using iFIT CDs or videos. You can also connect to your PC, and download even more programs from the iFIT website.

Overall impression:

Great for walking and jogging for the average user, and it suits my needs, but if you're an avid then the Healthrider Treadmill Model R60 is not the treadmill for you.

Sole Treadmill Model S77 - Commercial Quality At A Reasonable Price

Built for the more serious treadmill users, the Sole Treadmill Model S77 - while similar in design to the Sole F85 - is a fixed unit. The S77 is powered by a formidable 3.5 HP continuous duty motor, backed up by a full 30-year warranty. Unlike the F85, the Sole Treadmill Model F77 does not have a folding feature, making it more suitable for committed fitness enthusiasts who prefer to work out in their own home.

Product Details:

* Treadmill Weight: 280 lbs
* Max user weight: 400 lbs
* Deck size: 30" x 80"
* Running surface: 20" x 60"
* Motor: 3.5 HP Continuous Duty
* Speed: 0.5 to 12 MPH
* Incline: 15% maximum, rack and pinion gear design
* Belt: Double woven 2-ply
* Rollers: 2 3/4"
* Folding: No

Main Features

* Heart rate control with wireless chest strap
* Hand pulse grips, arm rest and incline control
* Three color display, scrolling messages
* 6 standard programs, 2 user defined programs and 2 heart rate programs
* Cooling fans
* Lifetime deck and motor warranty, 5 year warranty on electronics, belt and rollers

Weighing in at a hefty 280 lbs, this treadmill supports a user weight of up to 400 lbs. Like the F85, the solidly built frame gives the Sole Treadmill Model S77 its stability, making you feel secure during your exercise program. If you normally include sprinting and interval training in your workout, the longer belt on this model offers a great option for runners. The display console on the Sole Treadmill Model S77 combines a row of 3-color LED data, in red, green and gold, with a scrolling message window. The arrangement includes vital statistics for speed, time, distance, pulse/pace incline and calories. The scrolling message text will help you plan your program and give you instant feedback on your progress - just like the treadmills you see at the gym! Additional helpful features include a ¼ mile track and peak and valley graph.

The Sole S77 has six pre-set programs, two heart rate programs and a further set of two programs you can change, for more control over your exercise plan. Essential safety features include a starting speed of 0.5 mph, double woven 2 ply belt, and the easy to reach stop button. A wireless chest strap keeps an accurate watch on your heart rate throughout the defined program, and the Sole Treadmill Model S77 can reach an impressive speed of up to 12 mph.

A word of warning for people considering purchasing the Sole Treadmill Model S77 (like the Sole F80 and F85); the position of the speed and incline controls on the handles means that they could be pushed by accident during a workout, so a bit of care may be required here.

With all the excellent features of the F85 model, plus the upgraded motor and belt sizes, this Sole S77 treadmill is certainly not for the faint-hearted. Currently priced at just under $2000, the S77 is ideal for those who take their fitness training seriously, and have the space to keep this treadmill on show permanently!

Reebok Treadmill Model 9500 ES - Is It A Treadmill Or Home Entertainment System?

The Reebok Treadmill Model 9500 ES is so packed with features that I wonder if it should be described as a treadmill at all! Combining fitness with fun, its more of a one stop workout and mini entertainment venue right there in your own home. An expensive gadget or a cheaper alternative to a fitness membership? I guess that depends on how much you pay at your fitness center, and how often you use it.

Another thing that strikes you when you're looking around for advice on the Reebock Treadmill Model 9500 ES, and other Reebok treadmills - made by ICON Health and Fitness - is the manufacturer's description. There's a trademark attached to so many of the features, and without sounding negative about the product itself, do we really care if the fan, or incline control has some kind of made-up name for the sake of adding a TM after it, and does it make the treadmill any more attractive to buyers? I doubt it! For the purpose of this review, however, I have included all the ® and ™ logos where appropriate, and you can see for yourself how ridiculous it starts to appear.

Main specifications:

* Motor: 3.5 CHP Commercial grade
* Incline: 0-12% Power Incline™
* Speed: 0-12 mph One Touch™ Speed Control
* Running surface: 60" x 20"
* Heart Rate: EKG™ Heart Rate Monitor
* Folding feature: SpaceSaver® Fold Away Design
* Shock Absorption: DMX™ Adjustable Impact
* Max user weight: 350 lbs
* Warranty: Motor - 20 years

Workout:

The Reebok Treadmill Model 9500 ES has a huge choice of 35 built-in programs, including four pre-set options, two event training programs, two for heart rate control, and six calibrated weight loss programs. If that's not enough, the 9500 ES is also compatible with iFit® Interactive Technology, which is like having a virtual personal trainer! The belt on this model is a very good size for a home treadmill, at 60" in length and 20" wide, giving a decent running surface and a more comfortable workout for those with longer legs. With speeds of up to 12mph thanks to the 3.5 CHP commercial grade motor, the Reebok 9500 ES is able to compete with some of the treadmills you see at the gym. Another attractive feature is the One Touch™ Speed Control, making it quick and easy to adjust your speed to your required level.

Console:

A multi-color LED display on the console shows the usual readouts for speed, time, distance and heart rate, and the integrated AutoBreeze™ Fan on the Reebock Treadmill Model 9500 ES will help keep you cool during your workout. The piece de resistance on this treadmill has to be the entertainment center. Featuring a 7" interactive flat screen, built in speakers, sub woofer and MP3 system, the Reebok Treadmill Model 9500 ES will surely make your regular workout an enjoyable experience.

Design and Warranty:

The folding feature of the Reebok Treadmill Model 9500 ES offers a convenient solution for home fitness users. The SpaceSaver® Fold Away Design with Easy Lift Assist Shock makes quick work of storing the unit away when you need the space.

The standard warranty on this model is one year for parts and labor, and 20 years for the motor. This, for me, is where it falls down when compared to some of the other folding treadmills; for example the Sole F80 includes a 30-year deck and motor warranty, and 5 years for its other parts.

Conclusion:

A hefty price for a gadget filled novelty that could soon wear off. Impressive as it seems, with a price tag of around $2500 the Reebok Treadmill Model 9500 ES doesn't sound like music to my ears!

Proform Treadmill Model 675 CrossTrainer - A Step Below The Rest

Not to be confused with the similarly named Proform 675 Elliptical, the Proform Treadmill Model 675 is a circuit-style machine designed for cross training. This is a relatively low-tech treadmill when compared to some of the more exciting choices in the home fitness market, and is more suitable for lighter use.

On the console you will find a backlit LED panel, a simple display with readouts for time, distance, calories and incline. In manual mode you can set off quickly by pressing the start button, or choosing one of the speed buttons. There are also increase and decrease controls to change your speed easily during your exercise program. Incline control is also within easy reach, with up and down buttons allowing changes of 0.5% each time. The display also shows a 1/4 mile track when it's in manual mode and the thumb pulse sensor measures your heart rate as you walk or run.

The Proform Treadmill Model 675 includes six interactive cross training programs designed to help you burn calories, while at the same time toning and strengthening your muscles. The six pre-set programs - two whole body, two upper body and two lower body - are assisted by the use of dumbbells and an inflatable exercise ball, which you need to buy separately. Similarly, the "optional" chest pulse sensor does not come as a standard accessory, you have to purchase this as an extra. You do, however, receive a pair of hand weights with the Proform Treadmill Model 675. The audio feature guides you through each cross training program with the voice of a virtual trainer, helping you to stay motivated.

One of the main attractions of the Proform Treadmill Model 675 is the folding feature. Manufactured by ICON Health and Fitness, the SpaceSaver® Design lets you store away the treadmill when space is at a premium.

Warranty on this model covers the motor for 10 years, with just 90 days for parts and labor.

Summary:

Good points - a simple cross trainer treadmill with a convenient fold up design.

Bad points - not for strenuous use; the limited parts warranty does not instill confidence in this product.

Conclusion - shop around for alternative cross trainer treadmills before you rush out and buy the Proform 675.

Specifications and main features:

* Treadbelt size: 17" x 50"
* Motor: 1.3 CHP Mach™ Drive Motor
* Speed: 0-10 MPH
* Incline: 0-10% Power Incline™
* Fan: CoolAire™ Workout Fan
* User weight: 275 lbs maximum
* Deck: ProTech II™ Impact Reducing Cushioning
* Programs: 6 Interactive Cross Training Workouts
* Heart Rate Monitor: EKG2™
* Audio: Interactive Audio Cross-Training Coach
* Accessories: 1 pair of hand weights
* Warranty: Drive motor - 10 years, parts and labor - 90 days

900 Elliptical Proform - The Ideal Substitute

Although treadmills are able to provide you with a great cardiovascular workout that would in turn make you lose calories, you will never be able to get the most out of a treadmill. This is especially true if your muscles and joints are causing you some pain that ironically enough, can be due to the stress on the joints associated with running on a treadmill. Given this situation, the 900 Elliptical Proform may be the ideal substitute.

The 900 Elliptical Proform underwent rigorous studies to show just what it is capable of providing. The machine allows you to burn the same amount of calories as you would if you choose to exercise on a treadmill but with much less effort on your part due to the design made specifically to bring ease and cut time to exercise. This makes it great for people that want to burn calories and lose weight fast and in the comforts of your own home or local gym and with greater ease.

It is the ideal machine for anyone from man to woman, young or old. An elderly person or someone who has suffered a foot or leg injury would find it easy to use. This is because the motion you go through as you exercise provides very little stress to the joints and muscles associated with running. All of these are achieved without having to compromise the wide range of motion that works out several muscle groups all at once.

But what really makes the elliptical pass the treadmill is the number of different ways you can workout. Changing your workout around can be anywhere from simply adjusting the incline for a more challenging workout to adding upper body workout with the aid of moving handle bars and even reversing the motion to add a new dimension to the muscles that it would work out.

The 900 Elliptical Proform is easy to use, it can provide many benefits and it gives you the body and fitness that you want in half the time it would take you on a treadmill. Given the list of things that it can do, the Elliptical 900 Proform is the perfect workout machine for you if you want to get into shape or are going through rehabilitation due to injury. It should be no wonder why more and more gyms are putting the machine as a part of their facilities for people to try out and love.

Which Is For Me? Treadmills Vs. Elliptical Trainers

Nowadays, elliptical trainers are all the rage. Still, the old school treadmill continues to be very popular with people of all shapes and sizes. If you're thinking about getting an exercise machine to use in your home, you may be wondering which is best for you.

Treadmills and elliptical trainers are both great exercise tools that you can use in the privacy of your own home. Both are full of benefits for your body. But, in some cases one or the other might be better for you.

Let's look at which machines best benefit which kinds of exercisers.

If You Want More Variety To Spice Up Your Routine...

...go with an elliptical. This is one of the major reasons why ellipticals have been gaining in popularity over the last few years.

Treadmills now have heart rate monitors, incline control, and programming options as standard features. But, even with all the increasing features that treadmills offer, elliptical machines offer you much more.

Even the simples, lowest grade elliptical trainers have more features than most high end treadmills. If you are serious about designing your own workout, an elliptical is for you.

If You Want To Lose That Extra Weight Quickly...

...you might prefer a treadmill. Treadmills have generally been shown to burn off calories quickly and more efficiently than elliptical trainers.

Lately, new research has challenged this. New studies have been saying that ellipticals can burn off just as many calories as treadmills with much less effort. But, the jury is still out on that.

If You Are Elderly And Looking For A Way To Keep In Shape...

...an elliptical is much better for you. Ellipticals offer a smoother and less stressful workout. People say it's like walking in air. Treadmills cause undo stress to your bones, which can be especially hard on the elderly. Go with an elliptical.

If You Are A Serious Runner...

...get a treadmill. An elliptical won't help you train for a big run. Serious joggers and runners always prefer treadmills because they perfectly simulate the experience of running. Ellipticals offer a different kind of workout.

If You Are An Athlete Looking To Supplement Your Training Program...

...an elliptical would be a good choice. Ellipticals offer more of a full body workout. You might just need a little cardio to round out your workout routine. In this case, an elliptical trainer would be ideal.

Treadmills only work out certain parts of your body, like your legs and lower abdomen. Ellipticals give your whole body a workout.

If You Just Want To Burn Some Calories And Get Your Heart Pumping...

...either one would suit you. For most people, a treadmill or an elliptical would work. Both machines are good at burning off fat and getting your blood pumping. They both offer a great cardio-vascular workout that you can do easily in your own home. And, they both have features that you can use to get the workout you want.
